DEATH IN THE HOME 
You will need to contact the deceased’s doctors, who will provide the necessary medical certificate of death.
Occasionally the certificate may need to be collected from the surgery.
If cremation is intended, the doctor will need to be notified, so the correct certificate can be issued.
DEATH IN THE HOSPITAL 
The hospital staff will arrange for a doctor to provide the necessary medical certificate of death. The certificate will need to be taken with you from the hospital.

DEATH IN THE NURSING HOME 
The nursing home staff will usually contact the deceased’s doctor, who will provide the necessary medical certificate of death.

WHEN DEATH IS UNEXPECTED
If the deceased has not been under regular care of a doctor, the Coroner’s office will be contacted as a standard procedure.

If your loved one has passed away outside of the county, of whilst abroad, we can assist in their collection.

REGISTERING A DEATH 
By law, a death must be registered within the registration county in which the death has occurred, usually within five days.
The doctor’s medical certificate of death should be taken to the Registrar’s Office.
