How Cooksley’s became established
Following an interview with a local well known Funeral Directors in April 1984, I was offered the position of administrator and Funeral Arranger. I really enjoyed the profession and four years later I took an entrance exam, followed by my Diploma from the National Association Of Funeral Directors and passed! Within 12 months I became a senior Funeral Director, followed by becoming Branch Manager. I covered every aspect of the industry, from arranging funerals to dressing the deceased and assisting HM Coroner’s with sudden deaths, road traffic accidents etc. I became the Regional Manager of fourteen branches. Twelve years later my Grandson Michael came on board and was trained in all aspects of the work, including Embalming. I then retired, but sadly two years later my dear husband passed away. On occasion I would carry out funerals on request, so I never lost touch. I returned to work part-time but became increasingly unhappy in the way the company was heading, I felt the changes that were being made were not in the best interests of our clients, so I decided to leave. My Daughter Sonia and Grandson Michael suggested we look for a premises and start up our own family run independent company. So here we are, I only wish that I had done it a long time ago. We are a great team, we work well together and we each compliment different aspects of the profession, three generations working together as one.
